Never Lake 03:30
All the things I take for granted Light hearted and heavy handed You tell yourself that it wasn't so good Nostalgia blinding the memories of your childhood You were so spoiled then Remember that you're better now You still think about that house where you grew up At one time it was your whole world - just blocks away And the way the sun hit your face while your mom sat in the yard With your dog and your brother.. You gotta know that it's never coming back And they say You're okay enough You were born to be tough Oh shoplifter With your drugs and parties Oh my god What if it hurts you Oh my god What if saying sorry physically kills you? And so I see myself in the destruction of the sky It opens up and I feel like I'm falling forever With frigid air whipping past me Tangling my hair and chilling my toes As if the rainy weather could somehow purify my soul? And then I'll plunge head first into Never Lake The water rushing into my lungs is all it would take To be washed clean from the inside out Is the only solution for self doubt You're okay enough You were born to be tough Oh shoplifter With your drugs and parties Oh my god What if it hurts you Oh my god What if saying sorry physically kills you? That's not the only thing I believe to be true I wonder if the love of your life would be happier with someone else And so would you If there's a difference between you and me The difference is that I'm like a disease When you're content to die at thirty Distant in every sense of the word The boy that talks louder is the boy that gets heard I love you more than the sun and the stars But you're just entertaining the fuck boys in their fuck boy cars

I can’t remember my dreams. I can’t remember.  The more fucked up you get, the more that you love me So long as no one is around With the words that I thought were special to me But you speak that way to everybody Don’t have to know your name to know what you’re worth I know just what you said I know what you’ve heard Don’t have to know your name to know who you've hurt I know just what you said I know what you’ve heard I asked if you learnt your lesson Didn’t really think you had a reason You said you didn’t care about death But you cared if I was leaving If only you thought of it at the time... I had to learn that from something you had written Labeled "I just wanted you to know In case you didn't know I know you're reading this And you’ll get what you deserve." I left a good relationship to get something so much worse Talk slowly and say it with me: I am barely part of your life And that's why I'm so much less fun when you’re with me  I hate who I've been And I hate who I've become I can't win In my defence for all purposes and intents It's never 'too soon' to talk about current events What you’re worth I know what you said I know what you’ve heard Don’t have to know your name to what you're worth I got what I deserved: Something so much worse

about

This EP is released as a farewell to our drummer, Tyler Zanon and guitar player Will Langlais. Recorded before our cross-Canada tour in April 2017, the tour was successful but ultimately brought to light creative differences between band members and ultimately causing Tyler and Will to part ways with the band. Truth be told, this wasn't a process that happened gracefully.

Originally, these songs were recorded as incomplete demos and were conceived to be part of a larger concept album. Each song is a place in a coherent world, with every song plotted out on a map sequentially. It would have taken the listener through a literal journey from point A to B to C and detailed what happened there.

Sadly and obviously, this album did not come to fruition.

These songs were never finished. What is contained in these tracks is simply as far as we had gotten. Parts are missing, the lyrics weren't final and the songs could have easily been restructured.

Largely, this EP is a product of kindness courtesy of Ian Buchanan for initially tracking us and getting the ball rolling on this project, and Paul Michalewicz for offering his mixing and mastering services to make these tracks something that we could share with you.

All of this said, Air Combat will continue to be a project with new music being written as we speak. Thank you to Will and Tyler for helping to shape the band this far and best of luck with your future projects.

Lastly, False Recovery was picked as the title for this EP as a testament to how difficult moving forward can be, both logistically and mentally. It's been a rollercoaster trying to continue with Air Combat as a project, with many ups and downs and false starts. Sometimes it felt like we had almost recovered only for things and people to fall through yet again. Those were false recoveries, and they served to feed a spiral of defeating thoughts and depression throughout this period of time.

Thank you,
Sheldon
